Fast Track Projects Course held on 9th June 2010
The Machar East subsea development is an extension of the existing Machar
field, which produces back to the ETAP facility some 35km away. This complex
reservoir extension was only recently found, thanks to advances in seismic
interpretation technology. Initially believed to be accessible only by
complex and challenging deviated wells from the existing Machar drill
centre, it was only when the feasibility of subsea tie-back option was
assured that project viability could be demonstrated. First oil from Machar
East was successfully brought on-stream within 12 months of project
initiation, and within 7 months from sanction, a record for BP. This
presentation will give an overview of the project, and will discuss some on
this key criteria required to deliver similar subsea projects successfully
and at pace. The presentation will also give an overview of BP's current
infrastructure and proposed projects for the North Sea.
